Social Cognition focuses on:

  • children’s cognition about the social world
  •  their understanding of themselves and other people
  • social rules and social categories

What is Social Cognition?

Cognition is the process of receiving, processing, storing and using information.

The ‘social’ aspect comes from the sociocultural theories learning model which asserts that culture is the prime determinant of individual development.  Humans are the only species to have created culture, and every human child develops in the context of a culture.

Our focus:

  •  how children come to develop social cognition
  •  how they understand social interactions
  •  how they come to understand their own behavior
  •  how they interpret the behavior of others
